Individuals can access a guided interview set of questions that staff will use to determine the type of assistance for relief from abuse and divorce. Operates a confidential legal helpline to help workers understand their rights. Topics include sick leave, family leave, pregnancy, and equal pay. Also covers discrimination related to being a parent or caregiver. Does NOT offer legal advice or process legal complaints.
Provides Vermont's sole public law library, located at the Vermont Law and Graduate School. The Community Legal Information Center (CLIC) offers free walk-in legal reference services, including legal research databases, legal self-help books, and Vermont legal materials. Also provides an Ask a Law Librarian Information Line and an online civil legal resources flowchart by county.
Provides individuals who qualify with legal interpretation and "translation" support for court proceedings, including divorce, custody, child support, relief from abuse, eviction, small claims, probate/guardianship, Children in Need of Supervision (CHINS), and Termination of Parental Rights (TPR). Also provides interpretation and explanation for Vermont administrative proceedings, such as 3SquaresVT or Medicaid appeals. Program does not perform any type of advocacy, does not provide legal advice, and does not provide services to defendants in Criminal Court proceedings.
