Provides assistance and education to protect consumers from financial fraud, and offers help with filing complaints. Regulates state-chartered banks, credit unions, and lenders, and can answer related questions and concerns. Provides information about mortgage assistance programs, approved reverse mortgage counselors, and foreclosure filing. Also enables consumers to check to see if their lender is licensed. Banking Division does NOT distribute funds to distressed mortgage holders. Complaints about national banks should be directed to the Federal Office of the Comptroller of the Currency (OCC). Federal credit union complaints should be directed to National Credit Union Administration (NCUA).

Automotive Consumer Assistance Program (AUTOCAP) handles complaints about vehicles purchased from a Vermont Auto Dealers Association (VADA) member. This program handles complaints consumers may have with their propane company. Also provides information and advise about telemarketing, charitable solicitation and debt collection calls. Provides consumers with a forum to resolve car warranty problems. Offers educational information about the law, frequently asked questions, and the process of arbitration. Consumers may file a Demand for Arbitration to request a hearing after demonstration of reasonable repair, which is usually three unsuccessful attempts or 30 cumulative calendar days out of service within the manufacturer's express written warranty. The term "motor vehicle" includes automobiles, select recreational vehicles, and trucks up to a certain weight.
Accepts consumer complaints regarding fraud and online privacy, and seeks refunds for groups of people affected by deceptive claims and services, such as cryptocurrency scams. Provides information about recent cases that resulted in consumer refunds, and suggestions about how consumers can proceed. The FTC cannot resolve individual consumer complaints, but when enough complaints are received about a particular organization or company, the FTC may open an investigation. Provides information and assistance to help consumers self-advocate about utility issues, and provides a form for consumers to file complaints against regulated utility companies and billing or service related to unregulated broadband and wireless companies. Services may include information and education about how to address and resolve problems. Will also investigate, track, and attempt to resolve complaints by consumers against unregulated services such as broadband, wireless, cable modem, and Voice-Over Internet Protocol (VOIP). The Consumer Affairs and Public Information Division will assist ONLY if consumer has been unable to resolve the problem directly with the company. Vermont Department of Public Service (DPS) DOES NOT assist with consumer information or complaints about propane; complaints related to fraud should be addressed to the Attorney General's office. DPS does not provide direct financial assistance for bill payment. Utility Disconnection Protection: per Vermont law, utilities cannot be disconnected if the temperature is less than 10° F or less than 32° F for households with people aged 62 or older.
