CONSUMER ASSISTANCE PROGRAM | OFFICE OF THE VERMONT ATTORNEY GENERAL
Provides a consumer complaint line for reporting incidents of consumer fraud or deception and investigates and prosecutes violations of Vermont's consumer laws. Issues scam alerts to inform the public of fraudulent telephone and Internet activities and mediates disputes between consumers and businesses. Automotive Consumer Assistance Program (AUTOCAP) handles complaints about vehicles purchased from a Vermont Auto Dealers Association (VADA) member. This program handles complaints consumers may have with their propane company. Also provides information and advise about telemarketing, charitable solicitation and debt collection calls. The Office of the Attorney General implements and enforces Vermont's laws. The Attorney General is the chief law enforcement officer in the state. She is charged with representing the state in all matters in which the state is a party or has an interest. The four core functions of the Office of the Attorney General are: to enforce the laws of Vermont, to defend the State of Vermont laws, policies and employees, to produce revenues, and to protect Vermont citizens.
