BALANCED AND RESTORATIVE JUSTICE PROGRAM | NEKCA COMMUNITY AND SOCIAL JUSTICE DEPARTMENT
Provides a voluntary and confidential opportunity for dialogue, understanding, accountability, and amend-making with direct participation of the people who have been affected and other community members. Offers low-level offenders an alternative to the formal court process and gives them a second chance to make amends. Provides educational strategies and practices, including special instructional methods and materials, learning activities and diagnostic and assessment procedures which encourage children and adolescents to maintain an acceptable grade point average, avoid excessive absenteeism or disruptive behaviors which put them at risk for suspension or expulsion and remain in school through completion their elementary and secondary education.

Newport Community and Social Justice Center, a department of NEKCA, is a non-profit restorative justice program that works with citizens, local and state government, and law enforcement agencies to provide restorative responses to crime and conflict for Orleans and Northern Essex Counties. Programs promote restorative practices by increasing community involvement in finding solutions to crime through Reparative Panels, Court Diversion, Conflict Assistance, Community Dialogue, Education and Crime Prevention, as well as Victim Support Services.
