CRISIS FUEL AND HOME HEATING FUEL ASSISTANCE | NEKCA
Works with households to resolve emergencies involving home heat and electrical disconnection notices using programs and funds available and helps with applications. Electric heat assistance is limited to households with primary heat source of electricity or electricity that is essential to keeping other types of heating systems operational. The Wood Warms Program provides two free cords of wood to eligible households that heat entirely with wood or that supplement their primary heat source by burning wood. All payments are sent directly to the fuel supplier. Households may be eligible to receive assistance from more than one program.

Eligibility
Crisis Fuel: Income Guidelines Apply; Household has a quarter of a tank of fuel or less, and/or a utility disconnect notice; "After Hours Crisis Fuel Assistance" for Weekends/Holidays Crisis Fuel: Same requirements as above, plus at least one member of household is a "vulnerable population" member (age 60 or older, under age 6, or is a recipient of federal disability benefit)

NEKCA (Northeast Kingdom Community Action) is a regional community action agency that provides low-income residents in Caledonia, Essex, and Orleans Counties with a continuum of case management services, advocacy, and assistance services to support economic independence. NEKCA provides Parent Child Centers that provide a wide range of education and support services for families with children in the Northeast Kingdom. Childhood education services include the Preschool Program and Infant/Toddler Care Programs. Parent education and support services include classes, workshops, support groups, playgroups, family support home visits. Also provided are support services for young parents enrolled in the Reach Up Program. Community services include emergency food shelves; emergency fuel assistance; homeless service; homelessness prevention; free tax filing assistance; budget counseling; holiday assistance, as well as youth services.
